Why You Know What to Do—But Still Don’t Do It.

Getting Out of the Pause
Getting Out of the Pause

I don’t think the problem is that you don’t know what to do.

Most of us do.

You’ve already thought about it. You’ve gone back and forth in your head. You’ve probably even told yourself, “I’ll start tomorrow.”

But then tomorrow comes…and nothing really changes.

And that’s the frustrating part.

Because it’s not like you don’t care, you do.

That Moment Right Before You Start

There’s usually a moment.

A small one.

Where you could do the thing—Send the message, make the decision, and begin.

And something in you just… pauses.

Not loudly. Not dramatically.

Just enough to stop you.

And once you pause, it’s easy to stay there.

What That Pause Is Really About

Most of the time, it’s not about being unmotivated.

It’s quieter than that.

It’s thoughts like:

“What if I don’t do this right?”

“What if I try and it still doesn’t work?”

“What if people notice me trying?”

So instead of moving, you wait.

You sit with it. You think about it a little longer. You tell yourself you’ll feel more ready soon.

But if you’ve been here before, you already know—That feeling doesn’t always come.

What Starts to Wear on You

It’s not just that you haven’t started.

It’s that you know you haven’t.

You see other people moving forward. You see what’s possible.

And you’re still in the same place.

Not because you can’t move—but because you haven’t let yourself yet.

A Better Way to Look at It

Instead of trying to fix everything all at once, just come back to one thing.

One small step you’ve been putting off.

Not the perfect version of it. Not the full plan.

Just the next honest step.

Because most of the time, clarity doesn’t come first.

It shows up after you start.

If You’re Waiting to Feel Ready

You might be waiting longer than you need to.

That version of you—the one who feels confident and sure—usually shows up after you start, not before.

If today feels like a “start” day…

  • Let it be one.

  • Even if it’s small.

  • Even if no one sees it.

  • That’s enough.
